“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
-Philippians 4:19
To be honest, this is my third run at our prayer guide this week. I cannot remember a season so full of beauty, excitement, anxiety, hope, and heartache. I have just struggled to pen simple words to describe such a complex season. We are moving forward fast to finally break ground on a new house for New Hope Children’s Home in Mongolia and also progressing towards expanding the ministry of Forever Mercy Children’s Home in South Africa. We have hundreds of thousands of dollars set aside for an urgently needed building project while still trusting God to provide pennies for daily bread. We have a ministry in an active war zone and another still reeling from the effects of civil unrest. There are stories of abuse and salvation, of bad attitudes and prodigal transformation.
Like I said, this is a complex season. But God is right here in it all. Of this, I am sure.
As I struggled to find the words to write, I found an unpublished bio and prayer requests in my inbox from January. Three simple words from 12-year-old Jonathan were the only prayer I needed today, “Supply our needs”. Yes, this can mean money, food, and resources. But it also means safety in war, comfort in affliction, healing in pain, forgiveness of sins, and everything else God is ready and able to provide. And most importantly, it is the provision of the one thing we need the most – the very person of Jesus present in our lives and world. We ask for help, and He gives us Himself. I’ll take this every day over everything else. He is what we need.
Praying “Supply our needs” puts us in a humble posture. It recognizes we indeed are limited and need help. But it also states that God is big enough and cares enough to meet us where we are. There is a need but there is a bigger Supplier. In Jesus, we have access to the riches of His glory. I can’t even comprehend that one. But it is there, nonetheless, as Ephesians 2:6 also tells us, “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
Will you join us in praying these verses for both WEGO and Jonathan? 1) Pray our needs are met in every situation. 2) But, even more, pray for the riches of knowing Christ to be put on full display through this 30th year of WEGO and in the life of an awesome seventh grader in Nicaragua.
Pray For WEGO Around The World
HOW YOU CAN PRAY:
1) Pray for our leaders: Puje in Mongolia, Heydi in Nicaragua, John and Naomi in South Africa, and Sergei in Ukraine. Pray each might discover the riches of knowing Jesus anew today. Ask God to grant them wisdom as they lead each ministry through a variety of challenges in their context and country.
2) Pray for God’s provision. For thirty years God has miraculously provided for this ministry through His people. We are currently in a season of urgent need to fund our ongoing expenses every month. Specifically, join us in praying God provides the full funding for our upcoming June ministry budgets.
3) Pray for our home build. In case you missed it, we are FINALLY ready to break ground. Praise God. We have a majority of the funds set aside and ready to go. Join us in praying a big prayer that our new home gets built THIS YEAR, without any more unexpected delays. Everyone is ready!
