WEGO Prayer Guide – October 2024

by Zach Dodd, WEGO Director

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.”
-Psalm 62:5

Take a big breath.

OK, I know you didn’t. Do it for real this time, but stop for a few seconds up top before you exhale. Notice that space up there? The tension at the peak? It’s a strange silence between the anticipation of the inhale and the relief of the exhale. Breathe too fast, and you’ll miss it. Focus on it too long and you’ll pass out.

That space is Saturday between Jesus’ death and resurrection.
It’s Jonah swimming with shrimp in the belly of a fish.
It’s curiously dry feet with walls of Red Sea all around.
It’s the weeping at Lazurus’ tomb.
It’s a bloody garden prayer.
It’s the beauty in between.

This is the space WEGO is in right now. This is true in Mongolia as our home build is nearing its finishing touches. This is true in Ukraine as the war rages on and in South Africa, as we dream of expansion and growth. This is especially true in Nicaragua as we continue to navigate impossible odds to graduate our largest class of 21 students at New Hope School in December.

Unlike every other prayer guide, I will not ask you to pray for specific requests this month.

I want to invite you into the silence and waiting with us.

This silence is somber, but it is not sad. It is waiting for and with God. It is the anticipation of a relieving exhale in Christ – when all things are finally made new and all these strange silences find their place in Him.

Take that breath again.
Acknowledge God.
Be Still. Know.
Praise Him there.
Trust Jesus with us.
Pray what comes to mind.
Wait with us for the exhale.
