By Zach Dodd, WEGO Director
“As they found themselves buried in the cloud, they became deeply aware of God.“
-Luke 9:34 (MSG)
Deeply aware of God.
These words, spoken of the disciples after the Transfiguration, have lingered in my heart for weeks. Peter, James, and John had just witnessed Moses, Elijah, and Jesus conversing on a light-filled, God-illuminated mountainside. Christ’s glory surrounded them like a fog, and they were overcome with awe and fear. Or, as The Message so beautifully puts it, they became deeply aware of God.
What a holy response to God’s presence: awareness. In our ultrafast, distraction-filled world, may we learn to walk slow enough and open our eyes wide enough to notice Jesus right in front of us. The Christian life is best lived with a looking glass in our hands.
Throughout this month, we have had the joy of recounting God’s work in our ministries through stories, testimonies, and numbers. These reflections have been more than an impact report. They are an invitation into deeper awareness that no one walks alone because God has been present, active, and faithful among us.
As we close out this year, we invite you to pause with us as we reflect upon Christ’s presence and work. Let us remember God’s nearness by praying together in one voice. And like Peter on the mountain, may our hearts overflow with gratitude as we say, “It is good for us to be here!”
Let's Pray Together
This is why this ministry was founded in faith more than three decades ago.
But we recognize this was not our work, but yours.
“Thank you, Jesus, for your provision of food.”
Jesus, we remember how you fed the multitudes with just a few fish and loaves. This year, we are equally amazed by how you multiplied limited resources in Florida to provide over 35,000 meals to hungry children across three countries. Donors provided the money, and our staff prepared the food, but it was you working through them.
And just like the thousands you fed with fish, this food was more than needed protein or daily nourishment. These meals were an open door to discipleship around a table. Every bite of food and every sip of a drink was enjoyed as children heard Bible stories and prayers in your name.
We are reminded that most children who come to New Hope Children’s Home in Mongolia have never heard Your name before entering our ministry. And now, because of this food, three times a day they hear and say, “In Jesus’ name we pray.“ Thank you, Jehovah Jireh, for this.
“Thank you, Jesus, for our local leaders.”
Lord God, we thank you now for Miriam in Nicaragua, John and Naomi in South Africa, Sergei in Ukraine, and for Byamba and Bolormaa in Mongolia. We join the children in our ministries in praising you for their sacrifice and deep investment. We thank you for saving them, each with their own powerful testimony of discovering new life in you.
We ask you to be a Shield of protection around them and their families. We pray against discouragement, burnout, or for the lies of the enemies to fill them with doubt or despair. We pray you give them, before all else, a deep awareness of how much you love them apart from their work. May they define success in faithfulness to your call upon their lives more than statistics or external validations. We thank you for their lives and ask you to bless them now as we pray.
“Thank you, Jesus, for the new life you brought to us.”
Jesus, we rejoice in your words (Revelation 21:5) together as we reflect upon this year, “I am making everything new!” In the midst of many challenges, we remember how you brought us new life and new creations, a foretaste of heaven.
+ A new house in Mongolia after seven years of planning.
+ A new director for New Hope, decades in the making.
+ A new child entered Forever Mercy Children’s Home in South Africa.
+ And new strategies for ministry were realized in both Nicaragua and Ukraine.
You are a God of new songs, new mercies, and new creation, and we thank you for all the new life you gave us this year. Together, we stand aware and grateful, thanking you for your presence in our lives throughout 2025. As we look ahead, we remain watchful and hopeful for how you will reveal yourself to us again. Jesus, keep us aware of you in 2026, on the mountaintop and in our everyday lives.
AMEN.
