A Brief History:
2018 – We took the first steps towards a long-held dream of building a new house for New Hope Children’s Home in Mongolia and began interviewing builders.
2019 – A builder was selected and initial concepts were sketched.
2020 – “Love Squared” was launched as the official fundraising campaign to raise $250,000 for the new home build and furnishings. A new playground was built as a part of the process!
2021 – We lost our builder. The company shifted its focus to only installing foam insulation during the pandemic.
2022 – The fundraising continued as four major issues halted the possibility of breaking ground: A major increase in the cost of materials, concerns about WEGO’s land certificate for the building site, the road to our property being paved, and challenges in finding a new builder.
Spring 2023 – Westside Church sent a small team to interview new builders and architects. Both were selected! Westside made a major commitment to ensure the $250,000 budget was met and the building process could quickly proceed.
Summer 2023 – The long process of navigating Mongolia’s unique land ownership rules finally found resolution after being taken to the highest land authority in our district. We were permitted to build on our desired location but for an unexpected $40,000+ expense, halting our build once more.
Fall 2023 – Our architect began working on new concepts to allow us to build within the boundaries of our existing land.
Spring 2024 – Final architectural drawings (147 pages) and new estimated budget (71 pages) were completed.
Summer 2024 – LET’S BUILD!
