WEGO Prayer Guide – April 2023

by Aaron White, WEGO Storyteller

“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5‬:‭11‬

Every year, deep thoughts about grief and celebration fill the space around Good Friday and Easter. This year, things have felt particularly thought-provoking. It’s the first time my son could hunt Easter eggs.  It’s been one year since my wife and I returned to church after the pandemic. God has our family in a very different place than we were last Easter, spiritually and physically. I came up to the tomb this Easter morning expecting joy and depth I couldn’t have found the year before.

Instead I was given melancholic reflections through conversations, sermons and devotions. My head whirled with spiritual truth with unclear implications. Then as I sat praying outside at work while waiting for a ride today, I found myself thinking “…this is the testimony…” and made my way to 1 John 5:11.

After reading and thinking and praying, God surprised me. For a moment, forget all the reflections and questions and emotions: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He is the one who will build us into loving him the way we should, and he is the one who bought us in the first place. But for now, sitting on a concrete stoop I feel the breeze and rest my weary head on that testimony, the foundation of everything.

Pray with us through the guide below. Ask that each of these folks in the guide experiences a deeper knowledge of that truth today, especially the students and children we serve. And pray that our staff and the churches in their communities can rest on that truth as they labor.

Join Us in Praying for Our Home Build!

This room isn’t just where food is made. People are made here, too. You will always find kids in our kitchen helping with meal preparation or clean-up.

How You Can Pray
Pray our kitchen becomes a teaching ground to train our kids for adulthood. Like some of our graduates, pray this room prepares them for their future career.

Reaching His Purpose Church – Nicaragua

From Pastor Moises:
“Hello, I’m 38 years old, my wife’s name is Francis, she is 23 years old. We have a 2 year old boy named Elias. I have been serving the Lord as youth pastor for 7 years now, and it has been the best decision of my life. We live in a community called Las Colinas in our own house. Our church is in Diriamba but I also have a youth ministry together with my sister at home. We are so blessed to be serving the Lord. I love hanging out with my family, they are my rock. What I also love the most is visiting our youth group and sharing the Gospel with others. My heart is blessed because of what Jesus did and is doing in our lives and nation. I trust our Lord in all I do. Every step I take I know God is walking with me.”

How You Can Pray:
1) Pray I would have wisdom from our Lord.
2) For provision to those in need.
3) For spiritual growth for our youth group.

Doljin – Herder/Firestarter, Mongolia

About Doljin:
Javzandolgor, nickname Doljin, is the herder and firestarter at New Hope Children’s Home. She’s up before the sun in the winter, stoking the furnace to get the radiator heat going. God uses her humble service to inspire and teach the children and everyone in her path more about the love he has for us.

How You Can Pray:
1) Pray God would give her good health.
2) That God would guide her son to a spouse.
3) Pray she could get the fencerow cleaned up without issue.

Gary Nicoya – After-School Teacher, Nicaragua

From Gary:
“I am 25 years old, I work with kids from 3rd grade to 4th grade. It is an honor for me to be able to serve the Lord with the kids. I love working here because I get the chance to show the kids how Jesus’s love is so they can learn to be kind with others and show Jesus’s light through their lives. I am single, no children. My favorite thing here is when I share time with the kids and the staff. I live in a community called La Paz Carazo, and I attend Mission Cristiana Torre Fuerte church in the same community. I love what I do, because all I do comes from my heart. Just to see a child’s smile fills my heart and life with happiness.”

How You Can Pray:
1) For all of my friends here.
2) For the leaders of WEGO.
3) That more of Nicaragua would turn to Jesus.

Nominerdene – New Hope Children’s Home, Mongolia

2) Pray God would show her his love.

Alexa Muñoz – New Hope Bible Club, Nicaragua

From Alexa:
“I am 9 years old and I’m in 4th grade. My mom’s name is Nela Medrano and my dad’s is Marlon Muñoz. We live in the Roman Esteban community in our own house. I love the fried chicken at the school, I also love helping my mom at home, like cleaning and washing dishes. I love playing with my kitchen toys and hanging out with my parents. I love coming here because our teachers share with us about who Jesus is. It’s very interesting to learn about the sacrifice He made for us, to save us all.”

How You Can Pray:
1) Pray my family would have good health.
2) Pray for me and my friends.
3) For my teacher, Nicol.
