“He says, ‘Be still…’”
-Psalm 46:10a
This is not a good time for me to be sick.
In one of the most important and urgent-for-a-fix seasons in the life of our ministry, I’ve spent the last few days in bed with my laptop stored away. Maybe it’s my body’s way of asking me for a break or perhaps it’s the recent surge of COVID swirling around my town. Either way, it has been my time to ‘Be still.”
I bet we all have fancy pillows or little doilies lying around with Psalm 46:10 printed on them. We all know the “Be still and know” part but do you know the rest of the verse?
“I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
In other words, God is saying, “Take a chill pill over there. This isn’t all up to you. I’m God. You’re not. I care about the nations (you included) more than you do. I will work my will. I will be exalted in the earth whether you do anything about it or not. Just remember that. I am God.”
We do have much to pray for. The spectrum of emotions attached to this season is wide- like a really good movie that makes you laugh and cry. Our hearts are brimming like kids on Christmas morning as we receive photos and videos of our home build progress in Mongolia. Our ministry in Nicaragua is surrounded by overwhelming challenges, incredible joys, and big questions to navigate. We just need you to pray. We are rejoicing in God’s divine movement in the hearts of children in South Africa while also grieving alongside Sergei for the continual devastation of Ukraine and his family being forced to move once again.
But in all of this, even just for today, we are asking you to join us in being still, while the world and all its worries swirl around us. We are asking you to join us in knowing God and remembering who He is. We are asking you to be confident with us that God will do what He said He will do while we are still – be exalted among the nations. He holds every need (yours and ours) in the Palm of His Almighty Hand, even the ones we have to be vague about online. Sometimes when we need quick action and movement the most, He says, “Be still.” That is what He is calling us to do today.
Join us in being still before the Lord. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and turn Psalm 46 into a prayer for yourself and our ministries around the world.
