+ Before you read Miriam’s words, get to know her story +
By Miriam Betanco, Reading Club Teacher
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
Matthew 11:29
The Lord teaches us that we can find peace and comfort in trials when we learn and trust the teachings found in His Word. Our Reading Club (adult literacy program) participants are working hard to reach their goal: To be able to read their Bibles and succeed in their lives.
Through our time gathering with the students, we see Jesus is working in them. They have so much faith in their new education and are patiently taking it one day at a time, knowing that one day soon they will be able to read their Bibles on their own. I am so thankful for what the Lord is letting me do through this work. Just to see our students improving fills my heart with joy. It’s a great experience because I am not only serving God, but I am also serving the community. It is so good to see our adult students learning and sharing. They love being a part of this ministry.
When Jesus came to earth, He walked around teaching, and people were coming from everywhere to listen. As some of the stories in the Bible share, Jesus fed not only their souls but also their stomachs. Our Reading Club is an example of what Jesus did. We are caring for others and walking with them in their hardship. We pray that each student will learn to read their Bibles, accept God’s teaching, and find rest for their souls.
